Letters to Maria

This letter was written by Maria's nephew Fernando, son of Maria's sister Cathy.  He is 8 and growing up too fast!

Family Reunion

Dear Maria,

Martha and I took a little trip down to SoCal this past weekend for a Santana Family reunion.  It was so great to meet family members I haven't met yet and hang out with your brothers and sisters.  The generations keep growing and the newest, Elena Marie, was just as cute as can be.  We had such a great time and even got to spend some quality time with Cruz and Raul, which was extra special.  Your presence was truly missed, but we all know you were there in spirit.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!!  I have come so far on my donation goal and am so very very thankful to all you generous and supportive people in my life.

I would especially like to thank my wife, Martha.  You have been my fundraising campaign manager extraordinaire, a role that sort of fell into your lap and you have taken on without complaint.  I really could not have done all of this without you and think you deserve to hike the Grand Canyon with me.  I love you and am so blessed to have you.

Letters to Maria

Dear Maria,
I was sitting down today, writing a letter to a restaurant asking them for a raffle prize donation and as I wrote words started coming out of my head that I had never thought of before and I became so overwhelmed with emotion I broke down in tears.  I was trying to explain that although I have never met you, I know so many personal details about you.  And these are not necessarily details I've been told by your brothers and sisters, but more by just being apart of your family.

Like, your eyes...they are Martha's eyes.  I can look into them and see you.  Like how tall Mario is...I know he gets that from you. :)  Your voice...soft and sweet. Your embrace...it's strong.  You all have strong embraces.  Your smile...your mothers.

You are a memory in my mind because of the love everyone still has for you.  You permeate through the past and are still very much alive today.

Love,
Stephanie
